What could possibly be hotter than Zac Efron in spandex? Well, the weather obviously! In this neck of the woods, the weather has been incredibly hot these past few days. It’s almost mind-boggling how anyone can still survive the scorching heat of the summer sun.

With summer making its presence felt, anyone would be tempted to get some ice cream to cool oneself down. On the contrary, ice cream hardly does the job of lowering your body temperature. What ice cream does is it initially gives a cooling effect, but your body consequently compensates for this sudden drop in temperature by increasing blood flow to the “cool” parts of your body, and brings the temperature back up.
The wiser choice in cooling you down would have to be fruits and vegetables which are high in water content. Watermelon, cucumbers, bananas, lettuce, tomatoes are just some of these cooling foods. It also matters how you prepare these types of food. Steaming and quick sautéing are better than baking for long periods, as the latter will counteract the cooling effect of food.
So the next time you feel you’re sweating buckets, chew on a slice of fresh watermelon or cucumber. It will keep you hydrated and well, cool as a cucumber!
