The daily rainfall of doodles continues as Google comes out with a doodle which honors the sport of fencing. It depicts two fencers busy attacking each other. One fencer’s head forms an “O” in the logo, while the other fencer defends with the “L”.
Fencing at the London 2012 games proved to be full of surprises as not one of the top five players in the world or the last two winners made it to the semis. Top German fencer Nicolas Limbach was eliminated from the men’s saber competition after losing to Nikolay Kovalev of Russia.
Not to be outdone by all the drama was Women’s Fencing. Twenty-nine year old Elisa Di Francisca beat three-time Olympic winner Valentina Vezzali. Vezzali was hoping to be the first ever woman to win four consecutive gold medals in the Olympics, but sadly had to settle for a bronze this year.
