On the sixth day of the London 2012 Olympics, Google has chosen to honor the sport of Table Tennis. The doodle shows two players- one left-handed, and the other one right-handed- having a go at the ping pong table, with the paddle of one of the players covering the second “O” of the word Google which is written on the net dividing the table.
Table tennis at the London 2012 games happens from July 28 to August 8. The four events scheduled are men’s and women’s singles, and men’s and women’s team.
It comes as no surprise that China continues to dominate the game. They have nabbed both the gold and silver medals in the women’s singles event at the 2012 Olympics.
Interestingly, Swedish table tennis veteran Jorgen Persson made the decision not to compete in the 2016 Olympics after he lost 0-4 to Andrej Gacina from Croatia in the men’s singles. The game of table tennis is getting faster and faster, he says, and this for him is the beginning of the end.
