Google throws one today, as its doodle features the sport of Javelin throw. In keeping with tradition of coming up with Olympics-related doodles, Google features a doodle with a night theme.
A male athlete has the spotlight on him as he prepares to throw the Javelin before a huge audience. The javelin, which was once used as a weapon, later on became a sport, and has since become an important part of athletic events.
Back in the 1912 Olympics, the event used to be a two-handed javelin, where one made throws from both hands. This was the one and only time that took place, and Finland made a clean sweep of the medals.
The Javelin throw event at the London 2012 Olympics begins on August 8th.
