Taking Care of Your Laptop

Last week, boyfriend’s Aunt’s laptop died on her. Upon checking and testing, boyfriend saw a bad sector in the hard disk. Boyfriend was able to revive it, unfortunately 10 gig of the hardisk is unusable. His analysis were poor ventilation (Aunt leaves the laptop charged and on the bed); the laptop has dropped/fallen a lot of times because of the evident dents at the back near the hinges.

Because of that, we were alerted. The next day, we bought a cooling fan for our laptop. I realized that the fan near the CPU is not rotating when the lappy is not plugged in. I really should put some cooling under it.

We went to our favorite shop, CDR-KING, and chose the Dual Cooling Fan Pad which cost PHP380. I wanted to ask the guy before me why he chose the square one with a big fan, it cost PHP480. I was really looking at the transparent one which cost PHP280 (stingy me), but boyfriend said, this is better. It has two 92mm fans and a blue light.

We also looked for a palm rest protector (to refrain the palm rest from fading) but the store only has a 17″ Laptop Keyboard Protector. Our Laptop is 19″ so I placed the silicon thing on the left side and cut out the middle part where the touchpad is. It doesn’t look pretty, but never mind.

It’s true, I have washed it, and dropped some food on it, and it stayed the same. For PHP50.00 it’s worth buying it.If it’s very silent in your room, you will hear the fans sound, but doesn’t really bother me much. It really adds some cooling especially on my lap. hehe. Anyway, I just sent this over CD-R King to have the USB chord replaced. I first thought the USB chord was loose so when you twist it, it loses connection hence loses power, but the crew in CD-R king only changed the chord (the connection from the cooling pad to the laptop). Fortunately, today is the last day of the “upfront replacement” (it’s a one week warranty) from the store.

Update: (May 26 2009) My dual fan cooling fan isn’t working.. waah! No more warranties. I just find out last night that the led is the only one working. Okay, guys.. just invest on a good cooling fan. Or maybe I’ll just buy a small fan for me and my lappy. 2 in one. It’s so freakin’ hot!

May nag sabi sa akin dati…ang laptop daw dapat hindi pinapatong sa kahit anong malambot o may tela. Lalo na pag naka-charge o pag madalas ang gamit.I don’t really know why…

This one I read in a magazine: And it’s not also advisable to place it on your lap, especially for men.

Anyway, looks like you were able to find an alternative.

Hi everyone,
My binili akong LSY-627 notebook cooling pad sa CDR-KING Cebu last Sunday lang (nov. 15), kaso parang di nag-rerevolve yung fan nya ’til now, dko naman maibabalik o maipacheck kaagad sa kanila kasi medyo malayo kami sa cebu, mas mahal pa ang fare kaysa sa cooling pad, pero my 15 days warranty sya, but I’m not sure if makakabalik ako dun before the warranty period ends. Ganyan ba tagala yan, di sya nag-rerevolve o my defect talaga ‘tong nabili ko? Any answer will be greatly appreciated.
