Text messaging is a powerful media nowadays. Every person I know owns a cellphone – my father, brother, sister and even her kids who are barely 10 years old each own cellphones, my mother, my boyfriend’s aunts and grandmothers, and even their maids. Because of this, companies are adopting mobile marketing to reach certain group of people to promote their products or by simply giving away prizes and mobile coupons.
As a subscriber and a retailer to a telecommunications company, I receive updates from it like twice a day. I get excited over promotions like free text or call for 15 minutes half the usual price. And if you don’t want to receive these kind of messages (that sometimes referred to as spam), you will have to reply alert off (depending on your subscriber) to stop them from sending you alerts.
Social Networking Sites can take advantage of mobile advertising. My friends from Twitter and Facebook are updating their account profiles through their mobile phones. Why not integrate those ads from Tweets and FBs in sms?

yahoo is much more popular in Asian countries especially in the Philippines. the Y! application is bundled on most nokia phones and is readily available for use under Smart and Globe Telcos.
Though SMS advertising doesn’t seem to have much of a future in my opinion; due to the introduction of 3G services not to mention wifi and and constant lowering of handset prices which offer 3G and wifi capabilities.
