Coraline

coralineJust finished watching Coraline with Yzabella. As the movie goes to the point where she opens the little door (the height of a dolly), I think it resembles Alice in Wonderland (one of my favorite childhood stories) with a cat minus the rabbit. But what led Coraline to the door was a mouse. Coraline is a very adventurous, spontaneous girl who loves to play outdoors and the mud. Unfortunately, when they moved in, she has no friends to talk to and her parents are busy as bee finishing a garden catalogue.

When Coraline found her way through small door, it led her to a house like theirs. It has everything she wanted. Like her other mother and other father that she dreamed of – a mom that cooks for them and a dad who tends the garden.

But soon, she found out that this mother is just luring her to get make her as her own child. It’s like Hansel and Gretel, using the house and sweets to keep them inside the house so soon the beldam (old hag) will feed on her, just like what she did to the other kids.

I like the story, the visuals and OST. It’s like I’m playing with my own dollies. I always love mystery and stories which involve another dimension or brings you back in time or to the future. I can’t imagine Dakota Fanning dubbing for Coraline. I only distinguised Teri Hatcher as the mother and witch after I’ve read the credits.

I don’t think kids younger than 8 can appreciate some “scary” moments, otherwise, parents can guide them and explain it to them. Anyway, Yz and I watched it together. Every now and then I have to pause the film so I can explain it to her. Still I want to watch it again, by myself. ^^

I guess I’ll always have the kid in me. Not only kids will learn from this film, but especially the parents. The first part almost did struck me, when Coraline was trying so hard to get the attention of her busy parents. The mommy is typing so hard in her laptop and the daddy on his desktop. The setting is like ours… when Yz is getting bored with her toys and she tries to get me and hunny’s attention and we had to scare her away.

I know we try our best to spend quality time with her. I hope kids will understand that it’s not always happy and fun.. that we also need to work hard to get what we want/need. And in the case of our daughter who is 2 years old, I purposely let her play by herself so she’ll develop emotionally. I’m not really that workaholic you know. (bleh)

Do you have the tape, err, dvd for this movie? May I borrow? hehehe.

Good stuff you got here fedhz, I’d watch it, because I love watching cartoons, second, because I like children stories. Movies like this one keeps the young child in me, uhm… young! Don’t want little lorenz to grow up too fast now do we?

You are a sweet mom, taking time to explain to your kid the events in the movie. Very patient. Are you a teacher? Just asking. Patience is a trait that teachers possess. Oh, yeah, I remember, you are teaching an old friend to blog, so you’re a teacher!!!

@Zorlone: hey doc! Yeah, frustrated teacher ito. haha! No, I’m not that patient. You’d catch me shouting at my kid or anybody if I’m uptight. I just don’t want my kid to grow up like me kaya I have to explain. Dala na rin siguro ng kadaldalan. buti madaldal din baby ko. kaya anywhere kame, ingay namin. daldal ng daldal. matatawa ka siguro pag nakita mo kame. kahit inaantok na, daldal pa rin ng daldal.

Anyway, downloaded lng eh. but I can give u a copy. Dala ka lng ng CD mo. but u can only play this sa computer. codec thingy. Yup! love ko rin mga ganitong stories! Peter pan ka no? doesn’t want to grow up. hehe

I have not seen this before, not sure if Coraline show it as so far just Tom and Jerry, Ben 10, Mickey Mouse.
