One of the Aunts asked me to buy Barbeque for dinner since the maid won’t be able to cook because of piled clothes to iron. Yey.. I thought. I am the queen of the kitchen for tonight. Luckily, Yzabella busied herself with her watercolor paints and newfound Chinese paintbrush.
My brother and I used to cook Carbonara at home (but I dont’ actually do the cooking). I just love chopping, mincing, and dicing onions and garlics and other ingredients so this is my first try preparing and cooking everything by myself. So I pm’d tin (thanks tin for the recipe) remembering she told me that it’s her best seller.
Mike always say I have an exotic taste, so I’m not really sure if they’d be eating heartily (cross fingers), add to it that I have colds which prevents me from having normal taste buds.
I just used what we have in the ref and cupboard:
- 1 whole onion
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1 can whole mushrooms
- 2 cans Nestle cream
- 1/4 kilo ground beef
- 1 sachet cream of chicken (for soup)
- 2 chicken broth cubes
- 1 beef broth
- butter
While mincing the onions and garlic, I boiled water for the cream of chicken soup. I placed 1 tsp of light butter into a pan in low fire and then added the garlic and onion as soon as the butter melted. Next comes the ground beef. (thank gawd I didn’t burn the beef. ’twas nice to use a teflon pan).
When the beef was almost cooked, I added the mushrooms which I cut vertically into 4 slices. This was also when I added the beef broth to add some more beefy taste. (forgot to add salt, eh hehe)
When some of the mushrooms’ sides turned brown, I transferred the contents of the pan (sautéed beef and mushroom) into the cream of mushroom soup. Since it has already boiled, I added the Nestle cream.
The Granny saw me cooking and told me to add nutmeg and oregano powder to it (since I’m using cream which was too calorific for her, she always says.)
I added the chicken broth cubes (one at a time) tasting every second. How I wish they’d eat what I’ll cook. (otherwise they’ll order for delivery). I remember my brother loves putting red and green bell pepper to everything he cooks, so when I went out to buy pork barbeque at Grill Queen, I looked for red bell peppers and bought 3 small ones.
When I got back, I placed the Carbonara on heat again, let it boil and added the chopped red bell pepper. See? It looked better when it has red on it. ^^
… and the verdict?
Mike: Edible.. Translation: I have colds.
Granny: Masarap naman. Translation: It’s okay.. so so.
Okay I guess the barbecue made it taste better. haha!

edible naman pala eh hehe
no egg? hmmm
I never liked cooking carbonara.. masyadong madiwara and the recipe I have, kailangan mabilis ang kilis because you take advantage of the heat.. hindi kase niluluto ung alam ko, saute lang the onion and the mushroom and meat (at iba iba pa) then add halu halu na lahat (egg and nestle cream)

Looks like pasta, penna (cream) and prossciutto recipe…. hmmmm…. i do my pasta a la carbonara differently and mch simpler Fedzh… Anyway, we have all our versions in Ph of everything but when I went to Italy, I was just amazed of how quick and how simple they do all the pasta stuff…. I bet you did the Pinoy style carbonara, before I went to Italy, we did the same way as you do…hehehhe
I’ll try this tomorrow. I’m running out of ideas to cook. I’m sure it tasted good, Fedhz.
