TCP Musical: Enchanted

Enchanted

I’m not really sure if my pick for this week’s TCP fits the musical type. There are many movies that I know that in every move, the characters will sing and dance. But the song, How Do You Know keeps on resounding on my head ever since I’ve watched it so I thought of sharing this instead. Besides, I’ve already posted my Sound of Music and Sister Act Movie Reviews.

My brother told me that I would love that movie. I never believed him cuz when I happened to glimpse on it on HBO and the antagonist was shown, I thought how corny it was. But when Yz and I ran out of movie to watch, I thought giving it a try. And after that, I was totally hooked!

Enchanted is about a girl who believes in happy ever after and that the only powerful thing in the world is true love’s kiss. But she was sent to the “real world” by the Prince’s wicked stepmother and she was crashed to know that there’s no such a thing as happily every after.

There were actually only 3 songs that were sang by Giselle (played by Amy Adams), Prince Edward, and the animals. At the beginning of the movie, Giselle was with her animal friends and they sang, True Love’s Kiss (which is a duet by the way) with Prince Edward. The second one, A Happy Working Song was when she was in the “real world” (note that Giselle came from an animated land called Andalasia) and called out for the “real animals’ to help her out clean her new found friends’ condo unit.

The third one (which is my favorite) is That’s How You know. Giselle sang this for her guy friend (not to her Prince) and this is a production number where in other extra characters (full of dancers and mascots) just like the usual “theme song” of movies where they paraded on the park and clapped and cheered at the end.

There’s one scene when Giselle ran to the hills and then spun around while she was singing That’s How You Know, and I thought it was mimicked from Maria (Julie Andrews) of Sound of Music. I could go on and on why I like to watch this movie from beginning to end (yup, I’ve watched this about 10x already), but I won’t be a spoiler for now. ^^

If you love Disney movies, singing and dancing, and falling in love all over again, then this will be a perfect Couch Potato movie. And what’s a love story without twist or love triangle? Oh my gush. You should listen to the song, So Close by Jon Mclaughlin. I shiver everytime I remember it, reminiscing highschool prom. ^^

Okay, I should stop now. I would love to tell you more about this film. I’ll just wrapped it up with my conclusion and rating. Like I told you, the part where the stepmother transformed into a dragon, her voice (Susan Sarandon) didn’t suit the huge creature and that sounded eerie to me. The movie was well thought in some parts, especially Prince Edward believing the television as a modern magic mirror.

Some goofs are present, like Prince Edward seemed ignorant what a “ball” is. Giselle had to explain to her that a you sing and dance in a “ball”. You know, prince and princesses should know that, right? So anyway, apart from it being a Disney movie and a musical one, I’d give it a 10 rating all in all from the characters’ acting to the background song, and special effects.
