365 Bedtime Stories

Mike wanted to buy Yz the One Story a Day book his mom bought him when he was a little boy. His mom would read to him one story a day (to which he would ask for another story after the other). It was very dear to him and he wanted Yz to have that kind of storybook.

They were actually 4 sets of books I think which was in a hard bound cover. So, when I saw this 365 Bedtime Stories from National Bookstore (costs Php 475 or $10), I grabbed it and showed it to him, but I bet it’s no better than the One Story a Day.

The Outside

I dig the hardbound cover and the colorful illustrations from front to back. It really caught my eye. Actually there’s another book there of the same publication, titled 366 Stories (something like that. The paper used is strong as well, your kid can’t tear it apart easily.

What’s Inside?

Inside you’ll notice that each paragraphs are dated (one for each day of the year from January to February). It is actually a 30 second long paragraph if you’ll read it normally. But I guess if you’re gonna read it to a kid, it will take you double the time.

I’d really like to have a longer story as Yzabella is already 2 years old and she gets bored with all her storybook she had ever since she’s a baby. We read Bambie (which takes me more than 20 minutes to read) but she still craves for more.

Familiar Bedtime Stories included are:

  • The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids
  • The Ant and the Grasshopper
  • Puss-in-Boots
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • Jack and the Beanstalk
  • Tom Thumb
  • The Fox and the Raven
  • The Hen Which Laid Golden Eggs
  • Cinderella
  • The Hen and the Tortoise
  • The Three Little Pigs
  • The Goose Girl
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • The Brave Little Tailor
  • The Wolf and the Stork
  • Alibaba and the Forty Thieves

Anyway, 365 Bedtime Stories doesn’t actually have three hundred sixty five stories in it. It has like 10 full stories for each month (roughly about 120 stories all in all), which are divided into 2 to 3 paragraphs. Just look at Little Red Riding Hood Story here:

Yzabella tells the story sometimes based from the pictures.

“Once opon uh time, there’s a little big lion who talks to the mouse…. and they live happy ever after. Dee em.”

Guess what’s Dee Em means. hihi.
