World Habitat Day 2010

Saturday Sep 25, 2010

In recognition for organizations such as World Habitat Day and Habitat for Humanity; this coming October 4, 2010 United Nations will raise awareness for the improvement of shelter.

It will also highlight the Habitat’s priorities which are the worldwide connection between human health and housing. For the industrialized countries like the United States, it will give focus on neighborhood revitalization.

For this year’s event, the host city is Shanghai, China and this year’s chosen theme is “Better City, Better Life”.

To create awareness for the universal need for decent housing, Habitat for Humanity joins the advocacy to dismantle and alter the systems that will allow housing for the poor and make it affordable for them. Thus having a decent shelter will become a reality for all.

The offices of Habitat for Humanity worldwide have organized a World Habitat Day. One of the events is the 27th annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. There will be six cities in the United States that will hold this event on October 4-8. The project organizers and its volunteers would aim to build, rehabilitate and improve 86 houses in key cities.
