Ephedra diet pills, also known as thermogenic fat burner, was formerly used as a weight loss pill through generation of thermogenesis principle; that is to increase body heat by stimulating metabolism. Hence, fat stores will then serve as the fuel in the event of multiple digestive processes.
Ephedra diet pills acquired its name from its plant source, the ephedra sinica, or ma huang (Chinese name). Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine alkaloids are the two key ingredients of ephedra that are believed to elicit thermogenic effect. They are also known as strong brain stimulants, thereby causing the blood vessels to constrict as well as an increase in the heart rate. It has been proven to be highly effective in speedy burning of fats, however, there is no written proof or study that justifies its safety for long term consumption.
The ever so popular diet pill was banned by the FDA in 2004 when the users of ephedra pills experienced sudden heart attacks, strokes, and even death. It may also cause adverse effects when chronically consumed such as hypertension, insomnia, depression, anxiety and; when taken with caffeine – containing products, the central nervous system may get vigorously agitated and would therefore lead to irreversible organ damage and mortality.
