When I was a kid, I thought it’s so cool to wear eyeglasses. I thought people who wear one are so cool. All the prohibitions my Dad told me, I did otherwise.
Don’t watch too close to the TV.
Read with lights on (either Books or the computer).
Don’t read lying down.
Don’t scratch or rub your eyes.
I remember when I was 11 years old, I had trouble with my eyes. I rubbed my eyes intensively because they’re too itchy. I cannot bare it. I really had to. He put some ointment (forgot what it was) and somehow relieved the itchiness. A few months later came the Sore Eyes outbreak in school. But I know I didn’t get the itch from that.
Maybe I am far-sighted. I remember when during elementary we had to share books. My seat mate was near sighted so the book is with her and I’m just looking at it from afar. No problem with me.
I used to borrow my brother’s eyeglasses when I feel like looking “cool”. He doesn’t wear it anymore, even if I think he still needs one. My parents both wear eyeglasses. My father’s eye grade decreased so I still have hope that I can regain my 20/20 vision.
Boyfriend also just diagnosed with ASTIGmatism, along with his terminal eye condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa. He started wearing glasses at the very young age of 10 months, that’s why I get all the reminders when it comes to eyes.
The Ophthalmologist said that I should wear this everyday and only remove it when I go to sleep. The night before I got my eyeglasses, I felt down thinking that something is wrong with me. I know I used to think that people with eyeglasses are cool. They look intelligent because I thought they might have been reading endlessly that’s why their eyes suffered.
It was my first time to get my eyes check with the machine (I don’t know what it’s called) where you rest your chin and one eye is peeking into a hole where you can see a balloon in the middle of the screen. That’s the time when the Ophthalmologist said that I have astigmatism. She tested me again, reading the E chart. I was confident because I can see the letters clearly. I can see the last set of letters clearly but when she placed a lens on my right eye, the letters looked clearer.
Although I’m saving my money for other important things I still bought glasses. My eyes are my investment to earn more. I am in front of the computer most of the time and my eyes are precious to me more than anything. The thought of getting blind (me or anyone else) scares me to death.
Here’s a simple article that explains ASTIGmatism (causes, who’s affected, symptoms, treatment). The one I read in Wikipedia is too scientific for me to understand. (hehe)

I got mine when I was 8 years old.. just imagine how hard it was for me.. and eye glasses the was not a cool thing.. now my astigmatism is worse..and not to mention expensive
Hi, mommy pehpot. Yeah, that’s what my peers were telling me. But being the hard headed that I am, I still didn’t care. Now, it cost me my small earnings.

You’re right. Wearing glasses is not cool at all. It’s very inconvenient as well. I might go back to the ophthalmologist to have the lens check. Is it just me or malabo talaga kapag unang suot?

thanks for the message i’ll look up on the site you mentioned. and with conection to the post I don’t have astigmatism but I am now a super migraine person. same stuff that might have caused it…i was advised to wear glasses everytime I use the computer.
in fairnezz, i wished to have glasses din when i was younger. kainiz! kase, natupad na siya 2 years ago! now, i’m wearing one pero i don’t wear it diligently as told.

bigla naman akong naging thankful dahil kahit di ko rin sinusunod yung sinasabi ni mame dati, malinaw p rin mata ko. kainis nga magglasses. ayoko may nakasabit sa mukha ko e. hehe. pero dati din. feeling ko ang cool pag nakaglasses. LOL
